EQ: Winning with People

Jun 24, 2018 | Kile Baker

Winning & Losing | EQ: Winning with People Part 4 | St. George

Mark 8:31-37

EQ (Emotional Quotient): Emotional Intelligence is the ability to recognize emotions and respond appropriately.

Series Thesis: You’ll never win at life if you lose with people.

Think About It: There are times that LOVING feels like LOSING.

"Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it up carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable." -C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

Mark 8:31–33 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

On the cross, it looked like Jesus had LOST when really He had WON.

Question: Why did Jesus have to die on the cross?

Reason #1: Real Forgiveness Is Costly Suffering.

Reason #2: Real Love Is A Personal Exchange.

Do for others what they can’t do for themselves. - John Maxwell

Mark 8:34–37 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

Gospel Truth: Jesus promises that when we lose our LIFE He will SAVE it.

EQ Question: Where in your life are you willing to lose so that others can win?

Bottom Line: You have to know where to lose if you want to win.
