The Good Place
What the Heaven | Part 1: The Good Place | Draper
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21)
Series Thesis: Heaven is underwhelming when we lack UNDERSTANDING.
“Set your heartson things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mindson the things above, not on earthly things.” (Colossians 3:1-2)
Question: Why is the AFTERLIFE so often an AFTERTHOUGHT?
“Most of us find it very difficult to want ‘Heaven’ at all - except in so far as ‘Heaven’ means meeting again our friends who have died. One reason for this difficulty is that we have not been trained: our whole education tends to fix our minds on this world. Another reason is that when the real want for Heaven is present in us, we do not recognize it.” – C. S. Lewis
Answer #1: We don’t long for heaven because we can’t PICTURE it.
“What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mark 8:36-37)
Answer #2: We pursue our LOUDEST desires instead of our deepest LONGINGS.
“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” – C. S. Lewis
“There have been times when I think we do not desire heaven but more often I find myself wondering whether, in our heart of hearts, we have desired anything else." – C. S. Lewis
“Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.” (1 Corinthians 4:16)
Bottom Line: When we don’t lose sight we won’t LOSE HEART.
