Road Trip Trusting | Road Trip Part 2 | St. George
Series Thesis: Adventure and adversity develop UNITY.
Observation: Israel needed someone with a HOLY DISCONTENT to lead them out of Egyptian slavery.
Exodus 3:7-8, 10 The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey…10 So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”
Job one for Moses: Destroy the people’s CONFIDENCE in their ‘gods.”
Question: What does this teach us?
Answer: If we are going to trust God appropriately, we must LOSE TRUST in lesser gods.
Today’s Application: It was essential that God destroy the Hebrew’s TRUST in the gods of Egypt if He was to gain their TRUST.
Gospel Observation #1: The RESCUE of Israel took place before Israel was CONFRONTED and COMMITED.
Gospel Observation #2: In every religious system, “the gods” have to be made happy BEFORE they will act.
Reminder: Trust is a FRAGILE thing - when frightened or disappointed people tend to go back to trusting in what’s FAMILIAR.
Joshua 24:14-15 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve… But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Today’s Question: What have you been TRUSTING in that is not worthy of TRUST?
