The Man Upstairs

Hurting Hearts | The Man Upstairs Part 6 | South Jordan

SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE: : Matthew 14:13-21, John 11:20-21, John 11:33-35, 43-44, Mark 7:21-23, 2 Corinthians 5:17,
Ephesians 6:10-12, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12.

KEY TRUTH: When Jesus faced his WORST, he prayed for our BEST.

QUESTION: What is causing you to lose heart?

TERM: HEART = the CORE of who you are.

● If DIFFICULTY is causing you to lose heart, Jesus prayed for protection.
● If PEOPLE are causing you to lose heart, Jesus prayed for unity.
● If PURPOSE is causing you to lose heart, Jesus prayed for mission.

BOTTOM LINE: When you take his PRAYER to heart, you won’t lose heart.

Describe a time in your life when someone actively wanted what was best for you. What did it look like? How did you receive it?

The message talked about how we get discouraged because we often get our heart set on stuff and self rather than Jesus. What does this look like in your own life?

Read Mark 7:21-23 and 2 Corinthians 5:17 as a group.

Why is it often dangerous for us to “follow our hearts?”

If you’ve put your trust in Jesus, how will your life and desires (heart) change over time?

Read John 17:15 and Ephesians 6:10-18 as a group.

Jesus prays on our behalf to the Father for protection
over those who follow him. How does that apply to your life day to day?

Read John 17:11 and Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 as a group.

In John 17:11, what is Jesus asking protection from?

Why is it so important that Christ followers pay close attention to this truth?

Read John 17:13-14 as a group.

As Jesus was about to face his worst, he was praying for
our best. How can you find comfort and hope in this
through difficult times?

Jesus wants us to live life to the fullest with joy. How can
you remind yourself daily of his desire and prayer for you?
