Mix & Match
Old & New | Mix & Match Part 1 | St. George
When you Christianize the Old Testament, you TRIVIALIZE the New Testament.
- Separate themselves from others…
- Obey to earn a blessing...
- pray to invite God in…
- talk about holy ground, priests, temples, anointing…
That’s MIX N’ MATCH.
TESTAMENT: A one way declaration of someone’s will.
Hebrews 8:13 By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
COVENANT:A legal and loving agreement between God and people that stipulates the conditions of their relationship.
Some covenants are TEMPORARY and conditional. I will if you will.
Some covenants are PERMANENTand unconditional. I will even if you won’t.
-The New Covenant
Jesus didn’t abolish the Old Covenant; He FULFILLEDit.
Matthew 5:17-18 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
The Old Covenant came to an END; the New Covenant has NO end.
Ezekiel 36:26-27I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
Hebrews 10:14-18 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.
God didn’t change His MIND; he changed COVENANTS.
Galatians 3:24 The law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.
We appreciate, but we are not UNDER the Old Testament.
BOTTOM LINE: You have to let go of the OLD in order to take hold of the NEW.
